The process for removing bollards and patching the holes left in the asphalt.
*The process is similar for replacing defective bollards, and filling potholes, only adding/deleting a few steps.
First, we chisel a relief around the bollard pole to allow the concrete on the pole to pass through with minimal disturbance to the surrounding blacktop.
Next, we use hydraulics to loosen the pole.
Then, we use hydraulics to extract the bollard.
The hole is then back-filled and compacted, or if being replaced, the new bollard would be installed now.
The hole is then saw cut square to provide the new asphalt material with a better bonding surface, and for aesthetics.
The saw cuts around hole await chiseling out.
This is the saw cut hole, back-filled, compacted, with aggregate installed and compacted again. It's ready for asphalt.
Special asphalt patch with additives and binders from a local asphalt manufacture is added and raked smooth.
The new asphalt is then tamped before compacting with heavy roller.
The finished, neat patch. This will fade out over time to match surrounding blacktop.
